About us - Sofia Energy Centre

Background:

Sofia Energy Centre (SEC) was established in 1997 as a successor of European Community Energy Centre Sofia (established 1992) and has gained a lot of experience in the implementation of different European energy projects in Bulgaria. During its activity period SEC has been involved very successfully in PHARE, THERMIE, SYNERGY, SAVE, ALTENER, FP4, FP5, FP6,FP7, IEE, ERASMUS, INTERREG, HORIZON 2020 projects and actions.

In order to ensure the best possible response to different project requirements, SEC has established a small permanent co-ordination team of highly qualified experts and involves relevant specialists depending on the projects’ specifics.

Mission:

The necessity of rational energy use and decrease of environmentally harmful emissions, while at the same time meeting the growing demand for energy, is the basis of Sofia Energy Centre’s activity.

Energy efficiency at the final consumer (building, industry, etc.), co-generation, wider use of solar, wind and bio energy are amongst our priority activities.

Sofia Energy Centre follows the policy of the EU for promotion and implementation of new energy technologies for a more efficient and clean energy use at local, regional and national level aiming to reach sustainable development.

Main objectives:

To support the implementation of new efficient European energy technologies;
To stimulate the collaboration with European partners;
To promote new financial schemes for implementation of RUE and RES;
To support energy efficiency policy;
To promote the production and use of clean energy.

Contacts:

Sofia Energy Centre keeps active contacts and liaison with Bulgarian state institutions, municipal and local authorities, universities and educational institutions, associations, NGOs, industrial companies and others;
In the process of its work under European Commission projects Sofia Energy centre has established and maintains long-lasting contacts with organisations and companies from all over Europe.

Membership in organizations and associations:

Sofia Energy Centre is one of the founding members of Bulgarian Green Building Council;

Sofia Energy Centre is a founding member of Association of Bulgarian Energy Agencies (ABEA).

Association „Sofia Energy Centre“

In 2008 Association Sofia Energy Centre was established. Its main aim is to enlarge the scope of activities and scale up the dissemination of sustanable development and environmental protection ideas in cooperation with state and municipal authorities as well as other relevant bodies for implementation of projects in line with the Association main goals.

Association Activities:

Dissemination of knowledge regarding energy efficiency in buildings and promotion of renewable energy technologies, implementation of energy saving measures and energy consumption reduction, energy audits and studies;
Increase of energy efficiency in industry, implementation of cogeneration, horizontal energy technologies, and energy assessments;
Promotion of renewable energy technologies: solar thermal systems, biomass and biofuels, photovoltaic installations, hydro, wind and geothermal energy;
Energy management;
Energy policy and planning, and financial mechanisms
